With the aim of developing engineers who can play an active role internationally, our school offers various international exchange opportunities for you to experience different cultures and improve communication skills in English.
We have number of programs through which you can experience different cultures both within and outside Japan. The programs are offered during the summer and spring vacation, with varying periods ranging from 5 days as short-term programs to one month as long-term programs. Each program is designed with different themes, such as language training, technical training, internship, cross-cultural understanding, and research presentations.
Dispatch programs include programs to work with students from other technical colleges, joint programs with students in the Kyushu Okinawa area, and programs only for our students. You can make friends across different grades, departments, and schools. Depending on the program you participate in, you will receive a Scholarship if certain requirements are satisfied.

In the acceptance program, you engage in various learning activities with students from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand, who have exchange agreements with National Institute of Technology Kumamoto for about a week. In addition to the activities specially designed for technical college students such as manufacturing workshops, Ideathons that focus on various problems in the world and propose solutions, visit local cultures such as Aso and Kumamoto Castle, and visit to nearby companies. These activities provide out-of-class learning opportunities. There is also an opportunity to participate in an acceptance exchange program held at the technical college in the Kyushu area.
Students who wish to study abroad for a long period can participate in language training and research projects at overseas educational institutions that have exchange agreements. Briefing sessions are held every December. In the sessions we also report on the experiences of students who have studied abroad, including short-term programs and overseas internships.
It should be noted that some study abroad programs require you to take a leave of absence. For long-term study abroad programs, we offer loan-based scholarships and grant-type scholarships. You will be preparing for studying abroad while checking the scholarship application details and conditions.
Our school mainly accepts international students from 3rd to 5th grades. Throughout the year, we accept short-term international students from exchange partner universities and polytechnics to work on research projects in each laboratory for a period of 1 to 5 months.
International students stay at the Hachiryu dormitory, the Yuba dormitory, and the Meiwa dormitory. During the stay, there will be exchange events organized by the International Exchange Promotion Committee and volunteer students, and you will have the opportunity to have fun regardless of the school year.
